HWANG Woo-Chang is a Korean journalist, critic and radio DJ. He has had a long career as a contributor to numerous Korean music magazines, and also was a key figure in introducing many Koreans to world music when he worked for a record company. After leaving his position at the record company, he worked for radio stations like KBS-FM, CBS-FM, and MBC-FM as a guest and as a DJ, with a particular focus on world music. He is currently working on a book, entitled 'A layperson's guide to World Music.‘ |

Charlie Gillett |

Charlie Gillett is a British radio presenter and writer. In recent years, he has become one of the UK's most influential proponents of 'world music.' Author of the widely acclaimed history of pop music, The Sound of the City, Gillett began his career in journalism in 1968, and launched the record label “Oval Records” in 1974. From 1995 to 2006, Gillett presented a weekly two-hour show on BBC London, and since 1999 he has hosted a weekly world music programme on the BBC World Service. In 2006, Gillett was awarded The John Peel Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music Radio by the Radio Academy. For decades, Peter Hvalkof has been involved in Roskilde Festival. Since the mid-nineties, he has been a member of the booking committee, and has placed a special focus on world music and roots music. In the course of his career, he has been involved in several side projects related to world music. Today, he is also in charge of booking at Global CPH, which is a world music venue in Copenhagen |

Roskilde Festival is a 4-day outdoor festival that has been held each year since 1971 in the first weekend of July (to be held next from July 1st – 4th, 2010). The festival is attended each year by approximately 75,000 audience members (4-day tickets only), 25,000 volunteers, 5000 journalists, and 3500 artists. Approximately 180 bands/artists perform, presenting rock/pop, hip-hop, electronica, and world music. www.roskilde-festival.dk

Michael Orlove |
|
Michael Orlove joined the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs in 1993, and has helped to transform the Chicago Cultural Center into a prime year-round venue for an eclectic array of music that is free and open to the general public. He has created two festivals that have become staples of the Chicago summer season, including Chicago SummerDance (now in its 13th year) and the annual World Music Festival: Chicago (now in its 11th year). He played a key role in organizing the inaugural events at Millennium Park in 2004, and continues to coordinate music programming each summer. Michael is currently the senior programs director for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. |

Olivier Delsalle holds a Conservatory Diploma (viola), a Master’s Degree in Law, and is a former consultant in cultural engineering. He has been working at the Festival d'Ile de France since 1999, first as Executive Director then as Deputy Director. He has played an active role in the programming of traditional and world music repertory, and is a guest lecturer at the University of Saint-Etienne. |

In September and October of each year, the Festival d’Ile de France offers about thirty concerts in the heritage locations of the Ile de France. Its diverse programme offers classical music, from baroque music to contemporary creations and world music, with frequent connections between these repertories, as well as the Factory series, which is devoted to jazz and electronic music. www.festival-idf.fr

Maarten Rovers |

Maarten Rovers is the Artistic Director of the RASA Centre for World Cultures, a leading institute for the promotion of traditional and contemporary world music in Europe. In this role, he has been the co-initiator of many international festivals, and has acted as a world music consultant to the Holland Festival of Early Music and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Recently, Maarten served as an advisor to the Dutch Fund for the Performing Arts, WOMEX (jury 2008) and the European Commission. Growing up with classical music, jazz and world music, Maarten has developed eclectic musical tastes, from deeply traditional to highly avant-garde. |
